Pipiral Bridge at Bogota-Villavicencio road
Bogota, September 06, 2019

Pipiral Bridge is part of the Bogota to Villavicencio road that crosses Los Andes mountains. The road is a PPP contract to increase the road capacity by duplicating the number of lanes. Pedelta was responsible for the conceptual and for the detailed design of the 710 m long bridge. The bridge has 3 approach spans of 45+50+45 m while the main bridge has a span configuration of 75+140+140+140+75 m. The superstructure has a single-cell box section and has been built by balanced cantilever method.

As the road goes through a mountainous area, the piers have different heights, from 64 m the tallest to 8 m the shortest. Seismic devices were placed at some of the piers to minimize the seismic demand.

The bridge completion is expected by the end of 2019.
