PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Pedelta, as part of the Design Team, collaborated in the preparation of the Design and Build (DB) tender documents of the bridges and retaining walls for the SR 826/I75 Express Lanes Project. Miami Dade County.

The project includes the addition of 13 miles of express lanes along the Palmetto Expressway (SR 836) and I-75 (SR-93).

Our scope of services included the design and development of 30% Design Plans based on a preliminary structural analysis and design using FDOT standards, quantities estimate and other technical documents for tendering the contract. These services were provided by the Design Team to the Joint Venture of GLF – FCC – Kimley Horn.

When preparing our design proposal we carefully considered the unique aspects of the project, such as the need to minimize traffic disturbance, the goal of enhanced safety with minimal maintenance and an extended service life, and most importantly, a design that fulfills the needs of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and its customers.

 

DESIGN/CONSTRUCTION APPROACH

The project includes 4 steel I-girder bridges, 5 concrete beam bridges and 76 retaining walls, permanent and temporary, reaching more than 500,000 sft. The major feature being a flyover connecting the Express Lanes on SR 826 to the Express Lanes on I-75.
The flyover has been designed using spliced post-tensioning U-girders with a main span of 300 ft. Pedelta also studied an alternative proposal of a steel bridge for this structure.

  • Roadway and bridge widening of corridor along the east/west section of I-75
  • Noise wall structures along I-75
  • Retaining wall construction to accommodate roadway and bridge construction
