The global work comprised 6 differentiated structures of post-stressed concrete, 5 of them interlinked. The structures in which Pedelta worked on is the E1 structure, which is the one of greatest scale, involving two cable-stayed bridges with central towers. The towers have a total height of 47.50 m, of which 18 are above ground.
The width of the deck is 13.07 m, and the bridges link together at the side of the roundabout to form a single roadway. The cable-stays are formed by two groups of four stays per tower. The construction process used was the system of advance in cantiveler, using provisional stays. The foundations of the towers are formed of 12 piles 1.50 m in diameter and 30 m in length.
Pedelta was asked to perform a technical revision of the design project and to study several alternatives for the construction procedure. General qualitative review of the construction drawings was provided performing a constructability analysis of the original design and the alternative proposal erection processes. Structural analysis of the erection process was performed with the advanced bridge software analysis RM Bridge (Bentley).
The usage of RM Bridge allowed to include in one model all the constructions stages of the erection procedure, and to take into account special aspects like the nonlinear characteristics of the stay cables, as well as the P-Delta effects along the wholeconstruction, which are key features in the design of these kind of bridges. The same model was used to obtain forces, stresses and displacements in all the elements for the critical service load combinations.
